Roy Gan
Roy Gan (E-RYT 200) came to yoga the way a lot of dancers do — through his body, after years of asking a lot from it. Born and raised in Singapore, he trained and performed as a classical ballet dancer long before he found his way to the mat, and he's been teaching yoga in San Francisco since 2011. His classes carry a dancer's sense of how movement connects — creative, breath-led sequencing and clear, unhurried cues that help you find a pose instead of chasing it. The work is strong but never competitive; a first-timer and a fifteen-year practitioner can stand in the same room and both leave lighter than they came. After a career spent moving for an audience, Roy found in yoga something that was finally his own, and that's the heart of what he teaches: I am my own starting point. A graduate of the Yoga Garden SF Advanced Studies program — and a non-practicing lawyer who'd rather be on the mat — he teaches with patience, a little humor, and the belief that the practice belongs to you.
